The Spanish language is said to be 2nd in the world in terms of usage and importance, being the mother tongue more than 350 million people.
It is the official language of Spain, Mexico, all the Central American countries except Belize, the majority of the South American countries, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, as well as Equatorial Guinea and Western Sahara. It is widely spoken in the Philippines, Andorra, Brazil, Belize and many of the southern states of the U.S.
Because of this, learning Spanish can be a tremendous asset to the traveller, allowing for a much greater communication and understanding of the customs and lifestyles of the cultures encountered.
