Campeche

The state of Campeche is located in the south-eastern region of Mexico on the Yucatan peninsula. It is bordered to the west and south-west by the state of Tabasco, to the north by the Gulf of Campeche (part of the Gulf of Mexico) and the state of Yucatan, to the east by the state of Quintana Roo, and to the south by the neighboring Central American country of Guatemala.

Campeche's main destinations are the City of Campeche - an old and important commercial port whose historic center is a charming walled city declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO - Ciudad del Carmen, Champoton and Escarcega.

Other destinations of interest are the Mayan archaeological sites of Edzna and Calakmul, the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve and tours of Campeche's old henequen and cane haciendas.
