Boca de Pascuales

Boca de Pascuales, Colima, Mexico

Boca de Pascuales on the coast of the State of Colima is a surfers dream, or nightmare, a rivermouth beach break with some of the biggest, hollowest, fastest tubes in Mexico.  The waves break both right and left with enormous power.

These photos were taken in mid August, during a big storm swell.  There were only 8 people in the water, and one board was broken.  The faces are 20 feet and up with lips 2 - 3 feet thick.  There are stories around Pascuales (told almost reverently) of "around the corner tubes", a wave so deep you can't see daylight, that can be made.

The break is not far offshore, only about 50 to 100 yards, a short paddle but the 8 to 10 foot walls of whitewater can be formidable. WARNING:  Don't try to surf this spot if you are inexperienced or out of shape.  Surfing Pascuales unprepared may be hazardous to your health.

Pascuales beach is lined with simple seafood restaurants and has a few small hotels, there are more available in Tecoman.

To get to Pascuales:  Flights are available to either Manzanillo (international) or Colima (from Mexico City), in the state of Colima.  The city of Tecoman is about an hour from either by car, follow the sign from downtown (about 10 km.).  Buses are available to Tecoman and either taxis (cheap) or local buses or combis (cheaper) are easy transportation to Pascuales Beach.
