Playa Linda

The last beach in Ixtapa, Gro., Mexico, Playa Linda's surfing zone is located a few hundred meters (yards) down the beach from the pier that serves as the embarkation point to Isla Ixtapa.  Buses regularly run from Playa Linda to Ixtapa and the pier includes an artisans market as well as restaurants and small food markets.

Playa Linda is a popular spot for locals, like Escolleras, because it is easy and cheap to get to by bus, as well as having fun lefts and rights on both the beach break and the rivermouth.

The beach break, while usually smaller than the rivermouth, has a couple of consistent peaks for you regular and goofy footers.  The surf here is powerful and it is not uncommon to see more than one broken board on a big day.

The Rivermouth is usually a bit larger and is especially challenging in late summer after the heavy rains have built up the point and blown out the sandbar that dams the river in spring.  A few years ago (after 45 inches of rain in 3 days) we had epic double to triple overhead hollow waves that lasted for weeks.

The beach itself is coarse sand with rounded rocks at the shoreline and is usually full of interesting driftwood and excellent for beachcombing.

Playa Linda is also accessible from Barrio Viejo on highway 200, just turn into Barrio Viejo and drive till you see the sign just past the church that says 'Playa Linda Zona Surfing' and follow the gravel road.
