Surfing La Saladita
La Saladita is about 45 minutes drive from Zihuatanejo and it's still the best longboard wave around. There are a number of bungalows and apartments for rent on the point and a few, simple beachfront enrramada eating places for breakfasts, cold drinks and fresh seafood. Campers can usually find spots to set up tents and hammocks with the enrramada owners.

Longboard Magazine says:
'Traveling by boat the following morning, we came across another nameless spot we called Ubilam. This wave broke like a reverse Malibu. The flawless lefts peeled for a distance equal to that of a ride from third point through first at Malibu. Someone timed the average ride at over a minute and a half. Darren Ledingham, the only goofyfoot, said it was by far the best left he had ever surfed on a longboard.
'A few days later we took another boat ride hitting up three different spots in one morning. On the way back we couldn't resist one last go out at Ubilam. Zach Howard, one of the last to get into the boat there, streaked across the point backside with the poise and control evident of a world traveler.'
The bottom is made up of round rocks at the point (if you have to fall, fall flat, there are sharp edges) with a sandy bottom to the north up the beach. Lots of wildlife here, it's common to be dive bombed by pelicans, watch schools of fish and see the occasional sea turtle head pop up within a few meters of your board. Whales blow ocasionally in winter and las year I spotted a flock of pink flamingos flying over.
It's a long paddle to the outer sand bar but the whitewater is not strong and the slow rolling waves are very forgiving.
The coarse sand beach, usually covered with rocks, driftwood and large seashells, is relatively deserted from road in to the far northern point over 2 miles away. The palapa roofed enrramada style restaurants serve fresh oysters, lobster and fish as well as the best tortillas (a combination of corn and flour) ever made.
