El Castillo, Xilitla
El Castillo was designed and constructed by Plutarco Gastélum and was home to Edward James while building his Enchanted Garden at Las Pozas.
Now converted into a guest house offering 7 spacious bedrooms, dining room, game room, pool, TV room and library, El Castillo is a continuation-in-town of the design, sculptures and structures of James's fantastic vision.
Manager Avery Danzinger was a charming host during our stay there, and has a lot of interesting stories to tell and tips for travelers to the Huasteca. We were very comfortable and had the opportunity to partake in Xilitla's best breakfast right there in the El Castillo dining room.
At El Castillo you can see many of the concrete forms used for the casting of his ornate sculptures in the jungle. The Guest House also affords a stunning view of the valley and La Silleta mountain in the distance.
