Once out the hilly area around Zacatecas itself, this route takes you across stretches of high, mainly flat desert with lots of cacti and yucca, also called Joshua trees.
The road itself, for most of the leg between Zacatecas and Concepcion de Oro, is regular two-lane without much shoulder (2004) and with fairly light traffic.
Close to Saltillo, the road widens out with greater shoulder space. A somewhat monotonous drive, on the whole, with little to see.
