Alfredo V. Bonfil Beach, Acapulco Guerrero - MORROS SURF FESTIVAL

These festivities awaited by the children on their special day; with the enthusiasm, anxiety, energy, adrenaline and impatience that characterizes to these small people of young age, who asked every couple of minutes, "is it going to begin now?" - "...not long, not long...", t he Guerrero Surfing Association sponsored, this past April 30, the mini event, Morros Surf Festival, for child surfers and to support and engender in them an appreciation of the waves and the sea.

It was very gratifying to see to the parents and relatives hanging out together and supporting their children in this celebration; even though it certainly was not a fancy event it held the quality of kinship - it was not a competition but rather a co-mingling of children ages 3 to 9.

It was the cause of amazement and admiration that one child of just 3 years of age, Carlos Daniel Olguín, nephew of Roberto Olguín of the Mexican Juvenile Selection, actually got up on a board and sped through the foamy waves; and Alfa Blondy Blanco, the only girl in the event, who is the grand-daughter of one of the first surfers in Acapulco, Ivan Blanco... as well as the Cruz brothers, children of Leonardo Cruz; most of the children came from surfing families, the son of Manuel Rios, Trujillo's nephew, Vicente Vega's child. The charisma and enthusiasm of Emiliano Cruz were a determinating factor in the judges giving him first place. In the awards ceremony, Fernanda Duran was in charge of delivering the prizes that the sponsors donated to all the participating children.

The presence of José Manuel "Yuco" Trujillo, Mexican National Juvenile Surfing Champion of 2005, motivated to these kids to enjoy the waves, and to try to imitate him. Remember that "Yuco" Trujillo first competed in Children's events, last year achieving his National championship as competitor in the ALAS (WINGS) circuit.

RESULTS;
1. - EMILIANO CRUZ (5 YEARS)
2. - VICENTE VEGA ( 9 YEARS)
3. - MANUEL RIOS (7 YEARS)
4. - ALFA BLONDY WHITE (8 YEARS)

The Guerrero Surfing Association thanks Punto Muerto surf shop, Full Sand surf shop, Tortas Hipocampo, Mariscos El Amigo Miguel, Kokodogz surf shop, Casa Rasta, Toxic City, the competitors, judges and of course the media for their support in the accomplishment of this meaningful event.
