Children's Day surfing celebrations in Acapulco
Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico.-
The tradition continues and this year is no exception, as on May 5th and 6th the children's open surfing event “CLASSIC ZICATELA 07” was held on Playa Revolcadero in Acapulco, Guerrero, bringing together young girls and boys who enjoy practicing this sport. These are kids who no longer make sand castles but instead get out into the waves and surf in the open ocean, the smallest still being helped by their parents or older children in the water, making for a fun family occasion.
El Zicatela Surf Club, aware that these kids are the future of our country and of surfing, extended an invitation for participants in two categories: Short board and body board, ages 4 to 8 years and 9 to 12 years; even though the kids don't really compete but just get out there and have fun.
One of the aims of this children's surfing event is to focus on the new surfing values as well as celebrate children surfers on their day (April 30th is Children's Day in Mexico).
The first National Children's Champeon from 2005, José Manuel “Yuco” Trujillo, competitor in the ALAS Circuit, (Asociación Latinoamericana de Surfing)was present at the event to give a talk and surf clinic to the little ones.
